Step 1 - Registration

Either the Region Secretary or Tournament Manager fills out the QRF Seeding Registration form that includes the specific:

Sport
Section or Subsection
Last date for games to count for seeding*

Minnesota-Scores will apply the Tiebreakers as shown below to provide a Seed to the Section.  It will be emailed** to the Section Rep as well as seeds posted on the Section Standings page.

Step 2 - Calculation

Around 10 AM the next morning, the QRF Calculates and gives each team a value for their performances this year.  The end result shown for each team is the AVERAGE points earned for every MN vs MN game this season.

The Tiebreaker Margin is then calculated by finding the Average QRF Point Value in a specific Class, and multiplying it by 10% for Football and 7% for all other sports and can be find using the appropriate link below.  The Head to Head Tiebreaker is applied at 2x the original TM.

Fall
Winter
Spring

The last step of the calculation is to rank the teams based on their QRF Point Value in descending order.

Step 3 - Slotting

For seeding purposes, we use the term "slots" at the beginning.  So the team with the highest QRF in a Section is in Slot 1, the next highest is in Slot 2 etc. until all of the teams are slotted.

Note - in case of a QRF Value tie, we apply tiebreakers to those teams first to determine their slots prior to figuring out any other seeding.

Step 4 - Application

Next we administer the Tiebreakers which can be found in full here.  Some basic guidelines:

Always start at the top and work down
Always compare only two teams at a time
If teams switch slots, the newly higher team has a right to "challenge" upward if they haven't already been compared to the new team above them

Tiebreakers are applied using basic "If....then..." questions and looks like this:

Slot 1 vs Slot 2
Are they within 2x the Tiebreaker margin?
If yes - then next question
If no - then Teams remain in their slots then end
Does Head to Head break the tie?
If yes - break the tie then end
If no - then next question
Are they within the Tiebreaker margin?
If yes - then next question
If no - then Teams remain in their slots then end
Are they in the same Conference?
If yes - then using Conference winning % or Conference Points (based on their Conference by-laws), does it break the tie?
If yes - then break the tie then end
If no - then next question
If no - then next question
What is each team's Overall Winning Percentage - are they different?
If yes - then break the tie then end
If no - then next question
Did each team play the minimum required Section games to use as a tiebreaker?
If yes - then do these teams have different Section Winning Percentages?
If yes - then break the tie then end
If no - then next question
If no - then next question
Do these teams have different QRF Values?
If yes - then break the tie then end
If no - then next question
