The 2011 Boys' State Hockey Tourney opened Wednesday with second-seeded, No.2 Hermantown easily dispatching Alexandria, 5-1.
The Cardinals survived a scoreless first period by blocking shots and relying on goalie Ben Allen. The Alex backstop had 15 saves in the first 17 minutes.
The second period opened with Alexandria's only goal, and a flurry of goals came immediately after. In the time it takes to run to the fridge, the game was decided.
Jordan Domine scored five seconds into the period, beating Hawks goalie Connor Lucas. Domine's 18th goal of the year gave the Cardinals a shocking 1-0 lead in a game in which they were badly outplayed.
Hermantown responded quickly and authoritatively. Garrett Skrbich netted his 40th of the season 44-seconds after Domine's tally to tie the game. The Hawks then scored three more goals in the next three minutes to put the game out of reach.
