2A Final: Roseville vs. Edina
By Kyle Stevens
Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn
4, #3 Edina
0 - Final
Kayla Capistrant's power play goal just 2:23 into the
game was enough for Roseville goalie Erika Allen, and Capistrant's
second goal, just
1:25 later, proved to be icing on the cake. Thanks in large part to those two, the Raiders
won their third title (1996, 99) with a 4-0 domination of Edina.
Allen saved all 25 shots that came her way, including several from point blank range throughout the game. Even all the physical play in front of her did not shift Allen's focus. The two teams combined for 13 penalties, and of Allen's 25 saves, eight came on Edina's six advantages.
Though neither team scored in the second period, Roseville continues to fluster Edina. The Hornets mustered all of five shots in the period. Rosevill only had six shots in the middle frame, but they didn't really need them.
Hanna Brodt added a mid-third period goal to push the final score a bit higher, and allowed Roseville nearly seven minutes of an on-the-bench, mild celebration.
The win gives Roseville a 27-2-1 record on the season.
Edina falls to 24-5-1, including a loss to Roseville earlier in the year.
"I wasn't expecting that, I'll tell you that." - Roseville head coach Vic Brodt on his impromptu post game bath, courtesy of his team and a now empty water cooler.
