When Warroad rolled past Hutchinson 12-0 in Wednesday’s quarterfinals of the Class 1A girls’ hockey state tournament, Brook Story was the story. The junior scored five goals for the Warriors. Warroad wasn’t quite as dominant in Friday’s semifinals at Xcel Energy Center, but the Warriors had little trouble defeating Red Wing 7-2. Story scored twice, but the star this time was sophomore Karley Sylvester, who had a hat trick. “We knew they’d be good,” said Red Wing ninth-grader Cori Fairbanks, who scored the Wingers’ second goal. “We didn’t know No. 14 would be that good.” Sylvester wears 14, and she wore it well. Her teammates didn’t do too bad, either. The Warriors have put 94 shots on goal in two games; a tournament-record 54 against Hutch and 40 more against the Wingers.
