Brook Story found the quickest way to erase what she said were pregame jitters at Wednesday's Class 1A girls' hockey quarterfinals.
Story, a junior forward for Warroad, scored 11 seconds into the first game of the entire tournament and kept pouring it on from there. She finished with five goals as the Warriors rolled to a 12-0 victory over Hutchinson.
"I didn't expect it at the state tournament," Story said of her output, which was one goal short of Krissy Wendell's single-game tournament record.
Story scored twice in the first period, twice in the second and once in the third for Warroad, which led 6-0 at the first intermission and outshot Hutchinson 54-6 in the game.
Six other players scored for the Warriors, who had an 11 a.m. start to their first state game since 2006.
"[Story] is kind of a bearcat before noon," Warroad coach David Marvin said. "But the girls knew they had to get up early to be ready to go."
