Minneapolis Southwest volleyball: Guts, not glamour

There isn't much glitz or glamour inside the West gymnasium at Minneapolis Southwest High School. Just a small set of old bleachers on either side join an unpolished court floor. There is no walking track above or need for hanging mesh dividers to separate activities, because there is no room.
Think the cinematography from the early scenes of "Hoosiers."
Yet this is where the Lakers' volleyball team is gearing up for another season. And it is one of just two Minneapolis City Conference schools -- joining Minneapolis South -- placed in Class 3A for volleyball. Both are in Section 6, along with the likes of Bloomington Jefferson, Hopkins and Wayzata.
