Congratulations to our Hardware Hank “Nuts & Bolts” Athletes of the Week: DJ Winfield, senior, Mountain Iron-Buhl football and Jaynee Skeie, junior, Centennial girls’ soccer. They were nominated by Wally Kostich and Ginger Flohaug.
Wally writes: DJ had a monster night this past Friday in a home game against Babbitt/Embarrass. He rushed 17 times for 229 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. He had 1 reception for 61 yards and 1 receiving touchdown. He was 5 for 8 passing for 34 yards and one passing touchdowns. In addition he converted twice on 2pt. conversions; one rushing and one throwing. His cumulative stats for the year are 77 rushes for 1026 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. He has 2 receptions for 95 yards and 1 receiving touchdown. He is 28 for 47 passing for 418 yards and 6 passing touchdowns. He has converted on 3 extra points. He has two interceptions on defense. DJ is one of the most explosive athletes in the state of Minnesota. He maintains a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. He is a two year captain for the MIB Ranger Football Team.
Ginger writes: In the Section Quarterfinal game VS. Irondale Centennial found them self in an overtime situation tied 1 - 1 to Irondale. In Sections, Overtime is Sudden Death, next goal Wins. Centennial was against the wind and Jaynee found herself dribbling through the entire defense of Irondale and getting the game winning goal.
Note: DJ Winfield added four TD to his season total on Wednesday night against Orr.
