It could be the toughest section in girls’ Class A hockey. Section 4A features some of the state’s top teams, including last year’s 2A champs from South St. Paul. Breck is the #2 seed behind the Packers. They showed why on Thursday night against St. Louis Park.
The Mustangs jumped out front in the first period when Alice Reynolds missed on the breakaway, but Megan Curry followed close behind to tap in the rebound.
The Orioles stood their ground for a while. Into the second period, in fact, but by this time, Breck had seen enough. Elori Kramer and Lesley Kennedy scored 0:11 seconds apart, moving the lead to 3-0.
SLP launched an attack in the third, but couldn’t muster anything until late. They pulled the goalie with three minutes remaining and pulled within two with 1:25 remaining on a goal by Nikki Rice.
That was as close as they would come. Breck moves on to face Farmington on Saturday at 6:15pm. They will be followed by Blake vs Simley at 8:15pm. Friday’s games include Mahtomedi vs Shakopee at 5:30pm and South St. Paul vs Richfield at 7:30pm.
