The playoffs are a tough time for everyone. Schedules are switched around, days are long, and the possibility of your season ending soon is looming. There are winners and losers; and unfortunately for Moorhead, they were the latter in this contest.
Cambridge-Isanti came out with a mission, outscoring the Spuds 41-6, showing that they have what it takes to get to the Dome, and do well.
In years past, Cambridge-Isanti hasnít done well against Moorhead in the playoffs. Not this time.Senior captain, Hayden Vavra of C-I, had a good game with, three rushing touchdowns, 156 passing yards, and an interception on defense.Yes, on defense.
The 6-3 quarterback/linebacker plays both ways, and doesnít fair too bad.He carried the ball for the first three touchdowns, and also gave the ball off to seniors Joe Lindgaard, Chase Ostman, and Matt Solberg.Vavra also showed that he could throw a bit too with a 19 yard touchdown pass to senior Adam Berg in the fourth quarter.
Moorhead just couldnít mount a comeback against such a strong offense that the Bluejackets presented. They scored one touchdown in the 3rd quarter, on a nine yard pass from senior quarterback Nick Stoltman , but the extra point was blocked. This was just a representation of the game for them. They just couldnít do enough to stop C-Iís traditionally tough running game.
The season is over for the Spuds, but there is always next year.Cambridge-Isanti will play a tough St. Cloud Tech team at in St. Cloud Friday night.
