The Winners for 3-29-11: Kevin Kuefler & Zach Lofton

Congratulations to our Hardware Hank “Nuts & Bolts” Athletes of the Week: Kevin Kuefler, senior, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa boys’ basketball and Zach Lofton, senior, Columbia Heights boys’ basketball.

Name: Kevin Kuefler

Number: 22

Position: G

Sport: Boys’ basketball

Year: Senior

School: Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa

Information: Kevin helped lead Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa to their first ever state tournament in school history and guided them to a 2nd place finish by averaging 22.3 points per game.  His most outstanding performance came against MACCRAY in the semifinals where Kuefler scored a game-high 25 points, extending the Jaguars record to a perfect 32-0.  Their only loss this season came in the finals to Springfield.

Name: Zach Lofton

Number: 23

Sport: Boys’ basketball

Year: Senior

School: Columbia Heights

Information: Zach led all scorers in the Boys’ State Basketball Tournament, averaging 25.0 points per game, including a 31-point performance against the Cinderella Trojans from New Prague in the semifinals.  He also scored 25 points in the quarterfinals against Marshall and 19 in the championship game in an 85-76 loss to Orono.  Zach has been a catalyst for the Hylanders in a season in which they qualified for their first state tournament since 1930.
