St. Paul Johnson

(1) Johnson def. (4) Winona

By Kyle Stevens
Target Center - Minneapolis, Minn.

Anthony Lee (1) and the Governors seemed to be in jeopardy of losing their perfect season. But a 17-2 run to close the game gave St. Paul Johnson a berth in the 3A title game on Saturday.

(1) St. Paul Johnson 80, (4) Winona 55 - Final

The Minnesota Army National Guard selects our Two Stars of the Game:
Maxie Rosenbloom (St. Paul Johnson): 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists
Alec Brown (Winona): 15 points, 10 rebounds, 9 blocks, 3 assists

The Winhawks looked like they could pull the upset. And not just any upset, but one that would be talked about for some time. A win over the No. 1 Governors would have stunned the state.
Instead, Winona seemed to wake the giant just early enough. St. Paul Johnson closed with a 17-2 run in the final 5:30 to move into Saturday's final.
Four different Governors put up 13 or more points, led by Jordan Pluff's 20. Pluff, a senior forward, added three rebounds and a block to go along with his 8-10 shooting performance.
Winona was anchored by seven-foot senior Alec Brown, who did all he could inside to help the Winhawks enter upset territory. Brown finished with 15 points, but dominated defensively with nine blocks.
