The Story Line
It was a tough road to the finals for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted. The Lakers had to get through Pipestone Area in the quarterfinals and No. 4 New London-Spicer in the semifinals. After that, awaiting them in the finals was Caledonia. The Warriors finished the season one spot ahead of NL-S in the polls at No. 3 and beat No. 1 Jordan in the semis. A physical game saw the Warriors jump to a good lead, give it up and fight to get it back to win their first girls' basketball state title.

Even though they were ranked third in the state in the final poll, Caledonia may have been the team with the target on their back coming into the tournament. Needing three wins to cap off a perfect season, the Warriors came into Saturday's championship game 30-0.

There were close calls along the way—an overtime win against Dover-Eyota in the Section 1 1A final—and blowouts—a 61-19 win early in the year against Wabasha-Kellog—no win was sweeter than the one at Target Center on Saturday.

When asked if the moment felt perfect, Caledonia head coach Scott Sorenson said, "Yeah, it does."

The Quote
"We got complacent. I give a lot of credit to Jason (Kuehn, HLWW's head coach). They came out ready in the second half." - Caledonia head coach Scott Sorenson on how the Lakers were able to cut into the 15-point lead the Warriors had early in the second half.
